2017 Police Sergeant’s Exam Announcement Expected in July

In late April, the New Jersey Civil Service Commission (NJ CSC) revised their Examination Information Alert for the 2017 Police Promotional Exam to include the title of Sergeant! Previously, the NJ CSC’s Examination Information Alert only stated “TBD” for the title of Police Sergeant. According to the NJ CSC’s alert, the exam orientation guides will be issued on July 1, 2017, and the exam is tentatively scheduled for October.
This is welcome news for police officers across the State who have been waiting for the NJ CSC to announce the administration of the next Sergeant’s exam. The NJ CSC also revised their Law Enforcement Status Report in early May. The updated report includes a list of “anticipated jurisdictions” that will be included in the next announcement. The NJ CSC may also add additional jurisdictions to the tentative list based on a request submitted by an appointing authority or based on the status of a jurisdiction’s current list of eligible candidates.
